Travis Johnson aka “Smokesta” was born in Stuttgart Germany but spent most of his younger years with his mother and grandmother in Americus, GA. Travis interest of music began as a young child as he expressed this interest in many ways. He enjoyed playing drums, keyboard, and also enjoyed singing to a karaoke like system that his father owned. Travis said “I think, I was b/w the ages of 4 &5 & I would sing to the songs my father regularly played on the system which artists included Michael Jackson, James Brown, Rick James, & etc.” Travis had never been professionally trained in music or instruments but this did not stop him from musically expressing himself because it was his love and adoration for music that kept him intrigued and his love that evolved into respect for the art form. Travis learned at an early age about the benefits of perseverance & dedication.

He once saved $10.00 worth of pennies to purchase his 1st boom box and mic & with this he began to record himself vocalizing along with pre-recorder instrumentals in the back drop. After his father retired from the military, Travis was 9, him and his family moved to Augusta, GA. Augusta is the place where his infatuation with being a lyricist began. Smokesta had always aspired to be a producer but experiencing his cousin’s creation of a rap song which reflected empowerment to express one’s self through music he became inspired to do the same. He then learned to take all of his sentiments and use them to produce a style of music…rap. From then on “Young Smokesta” was born. He became a hot, well-known artist in Augusta, what once was a love quickly transformed into dream, a goal to be a national rapper. He began creating a reputation, a name for himself by performing on local radio stations and also in various night clubs. Smokesta released his first album while still in high school called “Thoughts of a Thug Angel” which was very popular overseas and is presently being sold today, during this time he also released his first and also popular single “Why You Label Me” he performed this live for his High School. He later went on and started a local label called “Misunderstood Minds” in which great music was created.

Smokesta used his experiences and talent to help develop other local upcoming rappers like Get Money Click, Mac and Slim, Slim Kutta, and MOB. Smokesta has released hits such as Ridin’ Slow, So Fresh, and Set Ya Price featuring Khujo Goodie of Goodie Mob. Smokesta decided to leave his own label behind to focus more on his personal career. “Young Smokesta” evolved within the music industry and with this evolution came enlightenment. Young Smokesta was no longer young within the industry but well versed and matured therefore leaving the “young” behind and now “Smokesta” remains. He also was introduced to Jonovan Stephens of Aquarius Vision who has assisted Smokesta with his career by taking him to new heights and exceeding expectations. Smokesta is blessed with a true flair and endowment. His inventiveness promotes elation to one’s spirits and inspirations to visionaries. His words have the capability to monopolize and captivate his audiences. Once you have encountered his idealization you will crave for another one of his genius creations.
